Back from the doctor...and not what I wanted to hear...

Several years back, i was told my esophigis was eroding and I was possible candidate for surgery to basically link my esophigis to my stomach and strengthen the weak flap that causes GERDS, of course that was human terms, the doctors make it much more complicated. Well after careful consideration I decided I wanted no part of that major surgery and declined. Fast forward 6-7 years, GERDS still awful, my doctor tries to change my meds to make it better, it didnt work, so suggest i have another endoscopy. Well the edoscopy shows severe erosion of my esophogis and ulcers in my esophogis and stomach caused by the severe deteriation of my stomach lining and esophogis...and yet again, i am a candidate for surgery, which is a bit more advanced but still very much invasive. He put me on two different acid blockers to see if that would help and I am supposed to go back in a month to talk about my options. The only thing that scares me, is if left untreated, my risk for esophogeal cancer is very high, and I dont want to put my kids through that, so for once, I may have to consider that when making my decision...doesnt life suck???
